What is Open OnDemand?
Open OnDemand is a web-based interface providing browser access to the clusters — no SSH required, and it works across devices including phones.
Logging in
Navigate to sn-ood.seawulf.stonybrook.edu (SeaWulf; NVwulf and ClinWulf have their own portals) and authenticate with your NetID, password, and DUO.
What you can do
- Terminal access — the SeaWulf Cluster Shell Access icon opens a terminal, exactly as if you connected via SSH
- Jupyter Notebook — Python development with visualizations (guide)
- RStudio Server — web-based R environment (guide)
- MATLAB — numerical computing platform (guide)
- Code Server — VS Code in the browser (guide)
- SeaWulf Desktop — a full Linux desktop
- Job Composer — batch job management (guide)
Application workflow
Configure resources (queue, cores, time, memory), launch, then watch the session progress Queued → Starting → Running before connecting.
File management
The dashboard's Home Directory option opens a file browser supporting upload, download, create, move, copy, and delete. To reach scratch or project space, create a symlink:
ln -s /gpfs/scratch/NetID /gpfs/home/NetID
