Accounts & project numbers
SeaWulf accounts are linked to project numbers. Only Stony Brook faculty and staff can request project numbers; BNL staff without their own SBU appointment can get access as collaborators on an existing project sponsored by an SBU faculty member. Once a project exists, any group member can be added to it.
Requesting a project number
Prepare a one-page PDF describing the project β the review committee needs all of the following to approve a request:
- Description β the project, course, or use case.
- Computational resources β estimated annual CPU/GPU hours, RAM per job, number of GPUs (if relevant), concurrent compute nodes, and typical job duration.
- Software β packages you need installed.
- Storage β every account gets a 20 GB home directory (fixed, backed up) and 20 TB of scratch (fixed, not backed up). Describe any additional needs β shared project storage up to 10 TB is available for team access.
- Group members β complete names and NetIDs of everyone needing access.
Then submit it:
- Go to the IACS ticketing system at iacs.supportsystem.com and choose Open a New Ticket.
- Select the help topic Request a Project Number.
- Attach the PDF, using a verified
@stonybrook.eduor@stonybrookmedicine.eduemail. - The committee reviews the request and issues a project number by email on approval.
Requesting accounts
Once a project number exists, the PI can request accounts for the whole group, or individuals can request their own (with PI authorization). Submit a ticket at iacs.supportsystem.com with help topic Request an account for SeaWulf, including:
- The userβs NetID
- The project PIβs name
- The project number
External collaborators without a NetID
The PI completes the external affiliation form and emails it to Sarena Romano for volunteer affiliation processing. Once the collaborator has a NetID, request their account through the standard ticket above.
