This service helps researchers evaluate de-identified or limited datasets intended for sharing outside the study team. The review confirms how broadly data can be distributed, or recommends modifications needed to meet regulatory and professional standards.
Who can use it
Researchers affiliated with Stony Brook Medicine and/or Stony Brook University who want to share human subject data with entities outside of their study team.
Even within a study team, access to the data is role-based. For example, statisticians may receive a limited dataset without names or MRNs, while the clinicians and coordinators who collect the data work with the full dataset. The honest-broker review can prepare these role-based limited datasets as well as datasets intended for sharing outside the team.
Example scenario
A clinical oncology research team completes a phase III trial. After manuscript acceptance, the publisher requests the primary analysis data for verification — the honest broker service reviews the dataset before release.
