Coming Christmas 2026

SecureWulf is being installed now. If you have a project that will need it, such as a dbGaP or All of Us controlled-tier award, or a data use agreement that requires NIST SP 800-171 controls, contact RCI so we can plan your project space ahead of launch.

Why SecureWulf is different

Encrypted, isolated projectsEach project runs in its own encrypted virtual machines and storage, walled off from other projects and from the shared clusters.
A familiar HPC workflowTiCrypt works with Slurm, so you keep using sbatch, srun, squeue and sacct. Jobs simply run inside your secure project.
Controlled, audited accessOnly approved project members get in, and access and activity are logged for the audit trail regulated projects need.

Best suited for

  • NIH controlled-access data, such as dbGaP genomic datasets and the All of Us controlled tier
  • Projects whose data use agreement or funder requires controls aligned with NIST SP 800-171
  • Sensitive or proprietary data and intellectual property
  • AI and machine learning on sensitive data that needs GPUs

About compliance

TiCrypt is the technical foundation, not the whole answer. It provides encryption, isolation, access control and auditing. Meeting NIST SP 800-171 also depends on institutional, physical, personnel and procedural controls that Stony Brook's Research Computing and Research Security teams put in place around it. RCI works with each project on what its data agreement requires.

Getting access

SecureWulf opens by Christmas 2026. Access is granted per project, for approved projects and their named team members. To get ready, contact RCI with your project, data source and any data use agreement. New to HPC? Start with the get-started path; your Slurm skills carry straight over.
