Umar Butt

Umar Butt is a seasoned Information Technology leader with more than three decades of experience spanning Healthcare IT, Data Center operations, Infrastructure Architecture, Systems Administration and Enterprise Technology management. His career is distinguished by a unique blend of strategic leadership, hands-on technical expertise, project management, and the ability to transform complex business requirements into practical, reliable, and scalable technology solutions.

Early in his tenure at Stony Brook University’s West Campus, Umar spearheaded the transformation of the organization’s IT infrastructure, evolving it from a modest desktop-based environment into a robust enterprise technology ecosystem encompassing physical and virtualized servers, enterprise storage systems, Microsoft Windows and Linux environments, VLANs, databases, web platforms, and comprehensive disaster recovery capabilities.

A significant part of Umar’s career has been dedicated to healthcare technology, where he has led major IT initiatives across Stony Brook University Hospital, Southampton Hospital, and the Long Island State Veterans Home. Collaborating with healthcare professionals, administrators, technical teams, vendors, and executive leadership, he has guided technology strategy, infrastructure design, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance, budgeting, disaster recovery, change management, and enterprise systems implementation. His technology leadership has also supported critical dining, retail, and point-of-sale operations generating more than $20 million in annual revenue.

At the beginning of his professional career, as a Systems Analyst at Citibank, he managed technology systems deployed across 24 branches throughout New York City.

Known for his strategic thinking, resilience, collaborative leadership, and results-oriented approach, Umar brings a rare balance of technical depth and organizational leadership. He specializes in aligning IT strategy with operational objectives, managing complex technology projects from conception through deployment and support, and building strong relationships among executives, technical teams, healthcare stakeholders, and vendors.

Outside of technology, Umar enjoys home remodeling and repairs, as well as off-shore fishing.
