Requesting an account under an existing project

Stony Brook faculty or their lab members who already have a SeaWulf or NVwulf project may request an NVwulf account under their existing SeaWulf project number.

To request an account under an existing allocation, please submit a ticket to our IACS support center under the "Request an Account for NVwulf" help category.  This ticket should provide the following information:

  • NetID
  • Project's Principal Investigator (PI)
  • Project Number

Requesting a new NVwulf project

If no SeaWulf or NVwulf project currently exists, a new project can be requested by a Stony Brook faculty member.  NVwulf project requests must be submitted as PDF attachments through the IACS support center under the "Request a Project Number - NVwulf" help category.

All submitted requests will be made publicly available and should not exceed one page, including any accompanying graphics.

Upon submission, your request will undergo review by our committee. If approved, a project number will be issued and sent to the email address provided in the submission. In cases where we are unable to accommodate your request, we will promptly contact you to explore alternative solutions.

Required Information

Please provide the following information in your one-page PDF project request.

Usage Description

Provide a brief description of your project, course, or other use case that justifies your access to SeaWulf. Detailed technical information is not necessary.

Computational Resources

Estimate the following:

  • Annual CPU/GPU hours needed
  • RAM usage per computational job
  • Number of GPUs typically used per job
  • Concurrent compute nodes required for a job
  • Expected duration of typical jobs

Software

If you would like specific software packages installed, please list them in your project request. You can request software to be installed at any time, but doing so here will speed up the process.

Disk Space

Describe approximately how much disk storage your project will need and whether or not the default storage configuration will suite your needs.

By default, all NVwulf users receive a 20 GB home directory where files are backed up and never deleted and a 20 TB scratch directory where files are not backed up and deleted after 30 days.

If you require additional long term storage or storage that all users of your group can read and write to, describe how much additional space you need. See here for more information about what we can offer.

User Accounts

Please provide the full name and NetID of each user in your group who will need NVWulf access, including yourself. You can request access for more users later on, but doing so from the outset will simplify the process.

Once an NVwulf project has been approved and created, members of the research group associated with the project can request NVwulf accounts under that project according to the instructions at the beginning of this article.
