About REDCap

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a versatile, secure, locally hosted, and mostly self-service web application that lets you quickly build and deploy data collection projects and surveys. It is designed to support a wide range of data capture strategies, workflows, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA.

Although REDCap is mainly used for research studies, it can also support quality improvement (QA/QI) and operational projects that have been approved by the appropriate office or regulatory body. The application is licensed to Stony Brook University under a consortium agreement with Vanderbilt University, and it powers more than 2,700 Stony Brook projects. For more information on the REDCap consortium, visit projectredcap.org.

Who can access

• East Campus: anyone with an SBM domain account can log in and begin using REDCap immediately.
• West Campus: request an SBM domain account from the RCI team first.

Service steps

1. Log in at redcap.stonybrookmedicine.edu and start building your project.
2. Move your project to Production before you start collecting data.
3. If you need additional features such as the API, SMS, or external user onboarding, request them. These go through an approval and onboarding process because of their higher risk profile.
