Overview
SeaWulf is a shared high-performance computing resource. Users are expected to follow best practices to ensure fair access, maintain system stability, and protect data integrity.
Key Policies
- Resource Usage: Submit jobs that are appropriate in size and duration for the chosen queue. Avoid monopolizing nodes or running excessively long jobs on short queues.
- Storage: Use home directories for small, critical files; scratch for temporary data; project spaces for shared data. Back up important data outside of SeaWulf when necessary.
- Job Management: Monitor your jobs and cancel them if they are no longer needed. Avoid leaving idle jobs running.
- Software: Use module-managed software whenever possible. If you install your own software, follow best practices for isolation and documentation.
- Data Security: Do not share your NetID or passwords. Respect the confidentiality of research data and follow any applicable regulatory or institutional guidelines.
- Support Requests: Use the official support system (iacs.supportsystem.com) for software requests, bug reports, or access issues.
Expected Conduct
- Be considerate of other users’ jobs and storage.
- Report issues promptly to the support team.
- Keep documentation for your custom software and workflows for reproducibility.
- Follow institutional guidelines for data management, especially for sensitive or collaborative research data.
Tip: Regularly check queue usage and storage quotas to avoid job failures or storage issues. Monitor system announcements for maintenance schedules or changes in policies.
