Important: SeaWulf accounts are linked to project numbers.
- Project numbers: Can only be requested by Stony Brook faculty or Brookhaven National Laboratory staff.
- Accounts: Once a project number exists, accounts can be created for all collaborators associated with that project, including students and external partners.
Requesting a Project Number
If your project does not yet exist:
Step 1: Prepare a One-Page PDF
Include:
- Brief description of your project, course, or use case (technical details optional)
- Estimated computational resources:
- Annual CPU/GPU hours
- RAM usage per job
- Number of GPUs (if applicable)
- Concurrent compute nodes required
- Typical job duration
- Specific software/packages needed
- Disk space requirements (default: 20 GB home, 20 TB scratch)
- Home directory: 20 GB (fixed, cannot be increased)
- Scratch space: 20 TB (fixed, cannot be increased)
- Shared project storage: You may request 10TB of shared storage for your project team.
- Full name and NetID of all users in your group
Step 2: Submit Project Request
Use the IACS ticketing system:
- Click Open a New Ticket
- Select help topic: Request a Project Number
- Attach your one-page PDF
- Provide a verified email (
@stonybrook.eduor@stonybrookmedicine.edu)
Step 3: Review
- Committee reviews your project request
- If approved, a project number will be issued via email
Requesting a SeaWulf Account
Who can request an account:
- The PI can submit accounts for the entire group
- Individual users may submit their own requests, but the PI will be notified for authorization
Information to include in the IACS ticket:
- User's NetID
- Project's principal investigator
- Project number
Use the IACS ticketing system. Select help topic: Request an account for SeaWulf.
External collaborators: If you do not have a NetID, your PI must complete the external affiliation form and email it to Sarena Romano to request volunteer affiliation with IACS. Once your NetID is created, submit your account request via the IACS ticketing system.
